Guys,

I don't know when the last oil change occurred on my boat so I think I should do it soon. I have the new filter ready and now want to know how you guys do the oil change. Do most of you use a manual pump pipe through the dipstick tube method? If so, what kit do you recommend? Do you perform the change with the engine warmed up already? Any tips for minimizing the oil leakage with the upside down filter on the top bracket? Thanks

Aha, I just noticed the "garden hose" fitting on the end of the dipstick tube. So maybe the Mercury or Jabsco pump?

I warm up the engine and use a Jabsco pump to suck out the oil through the dip stick tube.

I've never used the Merc pump but have used my brass Jabsco pump for 20+ yrs.

Something interesting to add to this topic: I used a pump on my 7.4MPI and decided to pull the drain plug afterwards to see how much oil was being left in the pan. Much to my surprise there was less than a 1/4 quart that came out of the bottom drain plug. Moral of the story- the suction tube works just a good and its much more easy to do!

ive used both the manual pump and electric i found the manual is great just have rags,disp gloves, and and a large capable container, ziplock bag

I'm not so sure about the disposable gloves. The pump's brass body was hot as heck, maybe some heavy duty insulating gloves would be best. I did buy the Quicksilver version pump and the removable rubber end pieces leaked quite a lot of hot oil if I wasn't gentle about gripping it. It went fairly quickly but it only got about 4 quarts out (including the filter's oil) and I thought this 5.7 had more like 5 1/4 quarts.
