Default Replacement Trailer

Hello all. I've got a 1998 202. It has a single axle trailer, Prestige. I'd like to look at pricing a dual axle. Anyone out there have any suggestions? Would it be worth it to see if I can have someone modify my current trailer? It's in great shape, I just feel that at 20' I'm borderline for that single axle. Plus, I'm considering putting a larger motor on it in the future.

Whats going on with the current trailer? As in why do you think you need to replace it?

I have had my trailer modified. It was a tandem and I had the axles replace with brand new ones that have electric brakes. I put load D tires on up from the Cs. That era of Prestige trailer is not a very good one in my opinion. They square cut holes to run wires/brake lines instead of drilling the holes. I had them repaired as well.

Moto, I remember reading your post on our axles a couple of months ago. From what I could tell it looked like yours was definitely a lemon. I haven't had a chance to look at mine yet to see if it had similar issues to yours.
I fell like 20' is about the tipping point on the single axle trailer. Most 18's have just a single, but most of the new 20's have dual. It's a heavy boat and if I drop a 350 in it like I would like to in a couple of years then it only gets heavier.
Last year I had a bearing seize on me. Lucky I pulled into a neighbors garage (90 feet away), jacked it up and the wheel literally fell off. I'm not saying roached bearings are worth throwing a trailer away, but it got me thinking. Do you have the information for the axles you put on? I've considered electric brakes too.
Maybe a heavier tire would do the trick. Really it pulls nice, and we don't go far with it, but after last year I'm more hesitant to take her down the road...

American Rockwell axles and the link to axles is just down the page a bit. They had really good prices and they were made in America plus I didn't have to pay shipping. The company shipped to their ware house in Denver an I went an picked them up.
It think it ended up costing around 1800 with the parts/labor and that is still not even close to half price of a new trailer like I was considering.

We have a 2000 Mariah Shabbah 18'. Back in 2005, I noticed some cracks in the trailer. Just above the leaf springs, where they mount to the frame. I sent some pictures to the Factory in Benton, Illinois. They replied to me that I should bring the trailer to them for inspection. I live about 320 miles north of the factory. I pulled the boat and trailer all the way down to the factory, and upon inspection, they said the trailer was defective! They lifted our boat off the cracked trailer and fitted it to the new trailer. There was no charge for any of this, and they apologized for the inconvenience. This new trailer has been flawless for all these years (11). This trailer is much better built. It has gussets in places that were not braced in the old trailer, and round holes where the wires go through the frame.

    Threejakes,

Who made your trailer? I thought Prestige went out of business.

Prestige made the replacement trailer. Don't forget, this was in 2005! I suppose in 11 years they could have gone out of business.

Too bad. This replacement trailer was head and shoulders better than the one that came under the boat when new. It has torsion bar suspension, huge disk brakes, 15" radial tires, braces and gussets where the other trailer had none. Very pleased with this new trailer.....have been for the last 11 years!!!

Wow i wish I had that one! I am looking at having to rewire the electrical, replace the bunk timber, and up grade to electric brakes on mine.
