Default Starting delay then turns over

This summer, I have had a hard time getting my 5.0L MPi to start. I replaced the batteries and clean all the connections. Typically after a week of sitting we put her in the water, I get nothing when I try to start. I wait a couple of minutes and the starter will click after holding the key a few seconds. After a couple more tries she will click while holding the key and then turn over. After she is warmed up and we stop at a cove. When I restart her I get nothing for a few seconds and then she will turn over and every time after that there is a few sec delay and then she turns over. At one time I thought it might be the Perko Battery switch because I would wiggle the battery cables and she would start but I check and clean all the connections.

Any ideals on where to check connections and voltages before I bring he to the mechanic.

Thanks
Steve

I'd make sure I didn't have a voltage drop from the battery to the starter , ignition switch to solenoid.
Did you clean the main plug connection that goes to the cockpit?
Have you tried jumping the solenoid when this occurs? Could just be a bad ignition switch too.
How about wiggling the shifter when trying to start? Neutral Safety Switch could be out of adjustment also.
Just a few things to look at/think about.

Thanks for the response. I tried all the basic stuff, so I bought a replacement slave solenoid because it was easy to reach and replace for under $15 dollars. I no longer have silence. but the now the starter will just click. I couldn't reach it to check the solenoid but if I turn the ignition key in rapid concession this will eventually get the starter to turn-over. The engine fires right up. I had to do this early in the day but by the end of the day it will start fine. I am assuming I have a bad starter. So the question is should I do a replace it with a new one or rebuilt ? & factory or OEM starter. Is there a brand I need to stay away from. Finally is this a do it yourself or Mechanic required aka any special keying or procedure before you can install the new starter.
