Default New 4.6 Mercruiser Owner - Lots of questions

I recently purchased an 1991 18' Diablo with a Mercruiser 4.3 Alpha One engine (sorry, typo in the title and it will not let me change it) . I have always owned outboards so this is completely new to me. Are there any "need to know" things that will save me in the long run. The motor only has 204 hours and has had regular service. Thanks for youe help.

I usually change the oil & filter as well as my gas line fuel/water seperator filter in the fall but in your case i would do it in the spring & fall this year unless you are absolutely certain the work was done before it was put away for the winter.Add a fresh tank of mid range gas & i would also add a bit of fuel stabilizer to the tank first to deal with any old gas in the tank. I also change my spark plugs every two years but again, since the boat is new you might want to have a look at them to see what condition they are in.

As for the outdrive, changing the outdrive lubrication is absolutely necessary in the fall.

In the fall make sure you get the engine winterized if there is any chance of freezing in your area. Failing to do so can cost big $$$
