Default possible auto motor

Is there a way to look at the vin or some numbers on the motor to tell if a pervious owner installed a car motor in the boat? It has an automotive distributor and looks like maybe an automotive carb also. I am looking into the carb to see if I need to change it back to a marine one.

I will answer this for future people. There is a seriel number tag on the side of the block above the starter that has the engine seriel number and also says marine on it. It is really hard to get to and required me holding my 8yr old by her feet while shooting a lazer light at it so she could find it and read the numbers. The boat has the origional engine in it.

Glad you found and posted the answer. I am curious why a laser worked better than a flashlight though?

It is what was on my key chain. She had a flashlight i just used the pointer to point at the tag since telling a kid what to look for is harder than showing them. The area is really cramped and there are alot of things in the way shining the flashlight back there just lit up the whole area but i could put the pointer on the tag. An adult could get to the tag but it would not be easy.
