I'm having same problem this year. I have a 5.0 2005 engine Merc. I have put in the gas tank stuff to eliminating water in gas. Changed water-gas separator, checked filter on carb. Took carb apart to see if water was in bowl.and found none. Then was checking if there was some sort of fuel filter inline. There is some sort of 1 1/2 by 5 fuel filter tube shape next to fuel pump has two wires going to it on top. Trying to find out what it does. Other wise engine will start with no problem rev. but put it under a load stalls out like it isn't getting gas. I have a cleaned air filter on top of carb.

I put in 2 cans of Sea Breeze water treatment in gas tank with more higher octane gas yesterday and let gas treatment work overnight.Boat ran great for a long time today. But,at idle speed still dies out. I raised the R.P.M. a little at home. Going back out tomorrow for a cruise.

Tried out boat today and ran good for awhile. Then engine would shut down.It would start right away and boat moved about 100 ft. and shut down again.Worked my way back to the dock.Going to replacewater- fuel separator again. Install more dry gas for moister.

My 2001 Z215 Jubillee is doing the same thing.......loads up around 2500 RPM and spits.

Where is the fuel water seperator and how do I change it out?

I also need a couple cans of Seafoam in there and it needs to be run hard and burn some of the crappy old gas out.

If looking at front of engine fuel separator on left side ,front of engine. Looks like smaller oil filter.

I have expenienced similiar situations in the past that were due to simply bad gas. Some fuel system cleaner helped with the problem. Another time it was worn out/bad ignition points which I think is your problem.

I will pull the cap, pull the fuel water seperator, and throw a couple cans of Seafoam in there. It needs to be run more is most of the answer. Hard to do that from the sideline of my kid's soccer game or at work!!

Got it today. I changed out cap and rotor and added three cans of Seafoam and changed out the fuel filter and still was bogging down around 2300 RPM and limited on top end.

I pulled the fuel filter again and dumped the gas into a bottle. I got a good teaspoon of water seperated out of about a 1/8th of a gallon of gas.

I changed the filter again. Ran it again. Changed to another filter and bang it seemed to run out better and better. Finally after about buring a 1/4 tank out it ran decent. I had only about 1/2 a tank of bad gas and had topped it off with "new" gas.

To summarize. Take a fuel sample. If there's water in it cahnge your filter and run it hard and change it again. I now have a spare in the boat.

    Hope that helps!!

I used seafoam a number of times and changed the fuel filter separator each time. Didn't eliminate my problem. I drained the whole gas tank. The boat engine run great now. The sea foam would only gather water in pockets and stall the engine and doing turns and donuts would only mixed things up.
