As i was riding at 38mph it seems that i hit someting, the boat lost speed but rpms were climbing, eased back and brought her to 5mph. Tried to plane out but she wouldn't. At 2500 rpms she lost trust but rpms went up but no speed. I took her back to the marina and looked the prop. The prop was a little bent on one of the 3 blades. Since i am new to this sport, i did some reasurch, i came up with conclusion that i spun the prop inner hub. So i replace the prop with direction of mechanic at the marina, he told me then that it may not be just the prop. Went out to try the new prop, and the same thing happened, couldn't plane out. So my fear is that the two mechanics i talked too, might be right on the their conclusion that i spun the engine coupler$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. This seems a little odd to me, because the damage on the prop didn't seem that severe. Maybe the coupler was getting weak. I also talked to the previou owner, and he never replaced the coupler and he had it for 11 years. Well tomorrow i will see if the insurance will cover it.

The insurance policy (here in Ontario) should provide coverage for impact damage. I whacked an unknown (to me) rock shelf about 4 yrs ago with my old boat & they replaced the entire outdrive. As long as the repair cost doesnt exceed the value of the boat less the salvage value (of the boat) you should be okay. Who are you insured with?

This may be a dumb question, but I didn't see it in your post - When you replaced the prop, did you replace the hub as well?

Today i received good news, i will be insured for the repair of the engine hub. The marina just needs to give the adjuster a detailed estimate and fax it. And i did replace the prop and inner hub.

Well today the mechanic and I went out for another test ride with a second prop. HE just wanted to make sure the new one wasn't faulty. Also he marked the drive shaft to the engine with paint to see if there is any slippage in the engine hub. Well the boat didn't change it still didn't plane out. And also to the surprise of the mechanic the markings on the drive shaft and engine housing stayed inline. Now we started to scrach our heads. Well we decided to take out of the water. We put it on the trailer while i was on land watching the boat get out of water and all the sudden i see a 2X4 stuck to front part of the outdrive, unbelievable. This 2X4 was creating alot of air bubbles which cause the prop to spin in these bubbles. Took a good look around the area and no damage at all, not even a dent. Took the boat out for a spin, she is all good.

Great news, besides I have no clue what a 2x4 is ..... must be cause english is not my mother tongue.

That is great news. Though the 2x4 stuck on the drive is a little odd. Did it get jammed in there at the launch ramp? Sounds like Simcoe needs a clean up...

Wow, that's one for the books!! You wouldn't happen to have a picture of the perp (2x4) clinging to your out drive??

Glad your I/O turned out to be OK, I would have loved to see the look on your mechanics face when he saw the marks didn't move!!!

This is too funny... I had to comment.

About a month ago, I was going about 35-40 MPH and "felt" a slight thud. It started cavitating and doing the exact same thing you described. I didn't try getting on plane because I knew something wasn't right. But I did hit the throttle a little only to find a lot of revving and no go go...

I raised the lower unit to see if my prop was screwed. What do you know - a 2' long 2 X 4 came floating out. It was split exactly in the middle, and obviously wrapped around the lower unit until I raised it. I felt around for damage and found nothing wrong. Lowered the outdrive and off we went again.

Funny how it was the exact same thing!!! Our lake rarely has debris floating around, and this thing looked like it had been around for quite some time. I'm guessing it was just below the waterline before I hit it. No damage and lesson learned!!!
