Default Circuit Breaker overload

Hello, I recently purchased a 1995 Z240 in great shape. After operating the engine cover latch it blew the ignition CB after about 5 seconds. I couldn't tell by looking at the CB what the AMP was so I replaced the old one with a 30 AMP. I thought the old CB might be bad which is why I replaced it. The latch worked great....but the ignition wiring at the key started smoldering. So, I realize the 30 AMP was to big. Trying to figure out why it is tripping to begin with and get the proper CB AMP in there.
Any suggestions?
Mike
