Default Gauge Replacement in a 1998 202

Hi:
I would preface my question with the statement that I searched the forums for an answer prior to posting so as to reduce redundancy.
I want to replace my non-working Lowrance 3500 depth finder with a Faria, and possibly the speedometer. I also need to tighten connections to the voltneter (It started to work when I hit the side of the dash). I see that there is no front panel removal to access the gauge cluster. What I do see are a series of studs with nuts on the underside of the dash which looks like the fasteners to mount the entire dash. Failing that, the only way that I see to access the upper row of gauges is through a small square access hole. I would have to work in the blind to use the access hole, if that is what it was intended to be.
Does anyone have any experience with this?

See if you have access from the front bow back-rest cushion directly in front of the console. Mine is hinged and lifts up for access to the back of the gauges. The other thing I've done to gain more access is to remove the kick panel down below the console.

    Mikey,
Thanks.... I will look at that and see if the backrest hinges up (fingers crossed)

    Mikey:

I checked out the backrests today and they do have hinges and swing up. Not a huge access area to the rear of the gauge cluster but definitely helps.
I have the new Faria depth gauge coming via UPS and just bought a Humminbird Chartplotter/sonar combo unit.
    Thanks again for the info......
