Default Illinois Boat Numbers

This has been driving me nuts. Anyone tell me what these numbers were for on my new Diablo. The "L80" in the back is what I am refering to.

Are they marker numbers for bouy rental maybe? Gotta know!
Thanks

Thats a good guess, or maybe if it was on a private lake?

Yeah, we used to live on a private lake that required ugly, easily seen numbers like that for the lot number of the owner.

I see the same on some of the other members' boats. Got to be something like that though. I've only seen them on boats from Illinois. Maybe from other states too , but just noticed it on IL boats.

They have to be slip or lot numbers. Could also be storage numbers, for rack storage, but usually those are on the transom. It's not just limited to Illinois though, I've seen them as far away as Australia.
