Default Trim tabs - why not factory?

So Ive read and researched trim tabs. All reviews are positive and I understand the physics as to why they work. But what puzzles me as a uninformed boater is why doesn't any of the dozen top quality boats either offer as option or come standard with trim tabs?

Just to venture a guess: Manufacturing costs go up by a couple of hundred $$. Then you as the new boat maker are admitting your hull design needs help and others dont therefore losing sales and $$. So no one puts them and let the buyer beware....... My first boat a 17' Cobia bow rider with a 90hp Yamaha outboard would pull a skier with 4 in the boat... no tabs needed! Go figure? But I love my $100 tabs!

Many do offer them, Formula, Cobalt, and Baja come to mind. I can't think of a manufacturer that makes them standard. I'll bet that most people buying one of these spendy boats opt for them.

Surely this is your post on iBoats, it contains some good info on the subject and is worthy of being linked.

Interesting link Dredd, thanks for the post. I know I wouldn't be without mine. Our river is rough with all the traffic and they sure help. I also agree with several of the others that an 18' boat probably doesn't need the big bucks hydraulic tabs but smart tabs would be a welcome addition to any of these smaller boats.
