Default Another prop question

I just bought a 1998 202 Shabah. I've read all the posts about prop size and my head is spinning. My wife and I are in our late 50's - we are looking for a good cruiser for the Potomac River near DC and the Chesapeake Bay. My goal is to have a boat that comes up to plane quickly - top speed is not a priority. I already bought the Nautica Smart tabs (80#). I've read posts that say a 17 pitch is a dog and 21 is a dog - poor hole shots. I've pretty much decided on a 4 blade 14" aluminum prop, but pitch remains the big question. Family members are starting to line up for skiing (occasional). Any suggestions ?

What size is your engine because hp plays a part too. Elevation is key with every 1000 ft above sea level you reduce by 1 degree. I run a 14 x 17 4 blade in mine at 5000 ft with 300 hp. I tried 19 and it was weak in hole shot and top end. I can go about 48 WOT and can pull a skiier up with 6 adults in the boat. I just put on smart tabs as well (pic on my post) so I can plane out at 14 mph with the engine trimmed all the way down.

Good questions ! The boat has a 5.7l V-8 and we are pretty much at sea level. FWIW - I've read that the 17 pitch is about right. 19 was OEM - 1 = 17 (although there are some 18s out there). We're probably looking at 3 or 4 adults in the boat and 1 skier. Thanks

You can pick up a prop off ebay or amazon for about $140 before you drop $400 on a Stainless. I can find used ones on ebay for about $75. If you are looking to try out some. Was the prop missing when you got it? How did it do in the test drive before you bought it?

A 4 blade 19" prop will give you everything you are looking for.
