Default Major problems with Talari 180!!

Hello,

I'm hoping someone here will be able to help me. I own a 1995 Mariah Talari 180. I've been having problems bringing the boat to plane. From a stopped position, when I put the throttle down, the boat takes forever to plane. I have to get everybody in the boat to stand up and move to the front in order for it to get speed and plane. Any suggestions as to how I can make this problem go away??

Thanks,
Jason

Need some more details. What motor? What prop is on the boat? How does it run once on plane?

Do you have the motor trimmed all the way in? You should.

If engine is working well....could be the prop (Check for damage) or just the pitch of the prop. I would find a Marina that Demos various props and test the one that best fits your needs.

After that I would consider Smart Tabs. That's a definite project for me this off-season. Good Luck

I had the same issue with mine, and it was all prop related. I replaced the aluminum 3-blader that the previous owner put on with a 5-Blade Stainless from Ron Hill Marine. Night and day difference. If I keep the boat for another season, I will be fitting it with trim tabs as well.

Mine had a Stingray hydrofoil on it when i bought it & she would get on plane after a short struggle. I got rid of the hydrofoil and installed the Smart tabs SX version & now she gets on plane quickly. They only take about an hour to install & they dont require you to have a Phd I didn't gain any top speed with it though despite the company's ads claiming you should gain 3-4 mph. It may just still require a little tinkering with the settings. I have a 3 blade 21" aluminum prop on mine & have been thinking of buying a 4 blade prop as a spare for wakeboarding/skiing etc/ Figured the extra bite of a 4 blade would help out.

Miket T......Did you lose any top speed? I'm almost sold to put the tabs on for next year. I also need a new prop. This one is pretty chewed. Our lake is so mismarked it's not funny. The major factor for me with a new prop will be hole shot to pull a skier. The boat is a little over 2000lbs with a 3.0 135 hp. I definitely bog with people in the back seats on the hole shot. I'm pretty sure I have a 3 blade 14 1/4- 21 on there now. Any sugestions?

did you spin your prop? have a prop/marine place look at it, they should be able to tell first look
props have a center piece that breaks free if you hit it on something (bottom usually) so that seal breaks instead of your entire drive system

alot of times if this is spun
your prop will work fine as long as it is not under stress
but under stress it slips (like starting)

I would have thought if it were slipping that I would get some sudden jumps in the rpms'. That's not happening. I will look into it. Thanks
