Default Lake Couchchiching, Rama

Thought I would post this up ...

Anyone in the Ontario region going to potentially be on / near / around Lake Couchchiching this coming long weekend..??

Plans as of today are: Pass through Lock 42 to Couchchiching, down to a friends cottage on the south east end of Couchchiching on Saturday morning/afternoon. Possibly making it over to Big Chief Island. Unsure if we would we attempt joining in the huge raft of boats there or not.

Unless plans change for whatever reason, that is what we are thinking about doing.

Let me know if you might be in the area, we are always open to meet up with others.

Sounds like a good trip from where you are on Sparrow Lake. Enjoy!

I'm figuring at least a 2 hour trek south to my buddies place.

At least an hour from Sparrow to Lock 42 and within an hour after we pass the lock and head south. Hopefully we don't swamp the bow of the boat like we did the last time on Couch. Couchchiching does scare me a wee but, navigating across Simcoe is a whole other ball game..

I've only been on Couchiching once in the past & that was with my old 18' Stingray on a very calm day but i can see where it would get a little rough quickly. Lake Simcoe? not in my boat unless i wuz staying close to shore...or i was absolutely sure of the conditions for the entire day.

Yeah, Couchchiching is rougher than Sparrow, but Simcoe trumps them both for being rough. I would be happy to make it down to the Narrows one day without too much of an issue. Just that bowling alley and cruisers = freaky riding.. lol.

Soo as for my trip of heading down to my buddies place Saturday, that changed over the weekend.

The previous weekend the toilet at the cottage was blocked up. Being that the toilet is 40+ years old, we figured it finally had enough. After a run down to Home Depot and about an hour later it was back on, but only worked "fine" for a few hours. Needless to say we ended up digging up a bit of the backyard up to the holding tank to find a few leaks in the PVC pipe (that was laid.. who knows how long ago) to try and figure out what was wrong.

Turned out.. umm there was a blockage mid-way down the line, and we found a tree root growing up the drain pipe from inside the holding tank. Another weekend we will be removing the existing pipe (that had 3 different connection points in a 22ft span) and to try and get rid of the tree roots that probably clogged up the drain in the first place.

Needless to say, I did get on the boat over the weekend with my brother, my wife and his 2 young daughters (8 and 6) and we enjoyed a ride and a swim on Saturday. Wow it was hot and it was much deserved !

They were all happy to be on the boat enjoying the time out there..
