Default Bunks over wheels

Iam looking to replace the half moon bunks over the tires. If anyone has done this what kind of plywood would you recommend for longevity and how did you wrap the carpet around the radias of the bunks.

I assume that you have an original Charriot trailer. I redid mine a few years back and replaced both the wheel wells and the plywood along with the carpet. I used marine grade 1/2” plywood and covered them using bunk carpet I purchased on eBay. Make sure to use stainless staples and roll the carpet around edge and staple from the back

When I bought the boat a year ago it had a trail rite trailer don't know were it came from but it was manufactured the same year as the boat. Were did you get the marine grade plywood?

A lumber yard I found online. A bit more expensive but seems to be holding up well. As you can see the chariot trailers were custom built to fit Mariah boats. The fenders were angled to fit the shape of the boat. If you are handy in metal fabrication you might be able to buy extra wide fenders and cut and fit it to your boat. I had my old ones to use as a template because an angled cut on a curve is tricky. (If you zoom in on this picture you can see the angled cut)

I believe were the bunks attach is angled to lean out towards the fender, I should be able to use the old one for a template. I noticed in your first photo your spare is flat at the front of your trailer, was that factory? If not how is it mounted.

I will second the stainless staples. I re did mine a few years ago with marine plywood. Aside from the warping they are holding up well. I did put a couple coats of black enamel pain 360 degrees over the plywood. Did it help? Idk. I am probably going to do them again this spring with 1/2" white starboard if the section I have is long enough. I think I will fasten with a nut & bolt as opposed to the self tap style screws that have been on from the Prestige factory. The bigger problem with my plywood fender backing is the screw holes are all bored out.

It’s like an older car spare tire tie down. A large threaded J-hook attached to a bracket welded to the frame and a large wing nut to hold it in place. You can probably do the same if don’t have access to a welder by drilling through the frame and using a threaded rod
