Thumbs up First hand prop review

Hey guys, I just wanted to let you know that this is a really cool forum and I've already learned a lot in a short amount of time about my 2000 5.0efi 202z.

I just wanted to pass along some knowledge about my prop choice. After reading a lot of reviews I decided to do some experimentation. The original blade was a 21p 14.25 inch prop, and I always found that my RPMs were much higher and slipping especially off the line. Also at Wot RPMs would be over 5500 RPMs and if I trimmed up higher they would even go higher. So I knew something was wrong. Because I could not get a good general consensus on proper size, I decide to do a cheap experiment and bought $120 prop from Amazon.
Amazon.com : Turning Point Propellers Legacy Aluminum 4-Blade Housing Propeller : Boat Propellers : Sports & Outdoors

This is a four blade prop same hitch with a slightly smaller diameter of 14 inch. I could not have imagined better results. My TopSpeed before was 51 miles an hour, it is now 55 and the RPMs at that speed are exactly 4600 to 4700. Also off the line it does not power rise as much when pulling Skiers. I'm going to see how next season does and I may not even put in trim tabs as I was planning on doing because of the high about rise that I was experiencing with the old prop. So in closing I just wanted to say that I am very impressed with the quality of this prop and feel that it is a good investment and has shown excellent results.

Regards,

Greg.

Just my quick thoughts: I think that if you were getting 5500+ rpms with a 21" pitch prop then there was something wrong with that original prop. The fact that your new prop is getting you back into the proper rpm range eliminates considering that the tach was reading incorrectly.

btw... is that your speedo telling you that you have reached 55 mph or did you use a GPS to confirm that speed?

With 1 person in the boat and the new prop with my current configuration I hit 54.9 MPH on the GPS on a calm lake with engine trimmed up just enough.
