Re: top speed and rpms
Sorry ,
WOT=Wide Open Throttle As far as the conversion.............it all boils down to how much you like your boat! You might want to just keep this boat for awhile , and later trade it in on a bigger one. Everybody that has a boat always gets the 2 ft syndrome.:rolling_laugh: After having a boat we all want one bigger and better. That's just the boaters life cycle.:rolling_laugh: Andy...........what was I thinkin' Time for a beer and a nap! |
Re: top speed and rpms
well....if i have a female and 3 kids in the boat it runs about 30 and turns about 42-4300 rpm and if im by myself it says its turning 6000 but i find that hard to believe cause the motot doesnt sound as its turninv that hard.

As a guild i'm getting a steady 50mph (GPS) from my boat in the right conditions, But TBH it's a fools quest! I use my boat on the salty stuff and everyday is different with tide and wind conditions. If you get fixed on top speed you'll only be disappointed on the days you don't hit it... Of course it's probably a bit different running on fresh water lakes where the conditions are a lot less variable. Quote:

Re: top speed and rpms
Take a look at the post "mikeyt" made here.
He explains about resetting the tach. I'd try that first. |

Re: top speed and rpms
According to my prop guy who has 30 years in the industry, There is no such thing as a free lunch....At first I had no f***ing idea what the guy was talking about until he broke it down for me....WOT top speed is kind of a joke. If you do 30 MPH top end, you will wanna do 40, when you hit 40, you will wanna do 50 and so on and so forth....2 of the same props on 2 comparable boats could run entirely different. If you have a local prop shop, see if they will let you try out different props and once your tachometer is fixed, get a baseline on what you have. Being a 3.0 litre, your best bet would be some smart tabs FIRST with the prop you have, then go from there. Tons of good info on props and RPM range on here so it's well worth your while to do some research on the forums.

Re: top speed and rpms
I had a 3 blade 19" on mine and went to a 4 blade 17". The majority of my time is spent towing kids and wife around or a little cruising. Hitting 60 in a boat doesn't excite me much. I'd rather have the boat excel where I'm using it. Mine won't hit 40 mph with the prop change now, but it has a deadly hole shot and almost instant plane. I cruise along about 3500 rpm with the towables. Couldn't be happier with it.

Re: top speed and rpms
If its reading 6000 rpm's your rpm isn't reading right. On back of rpm gauge there is a switch for 4 6 and 8 cylinder engines.yours is probably set up for a different engine size. I have a v8 and I had to move the dial to v8. It was at a v6.
