Prop Change repair

I recently spun my prop. When I was getting ready to change it, I noticed a steel sleeve over the prop nut. I cannot reach the prop nut with my prop wrench. It appears the larger nut (unsure of the name of it) must be removed first. Has anyone dealt with this before? Is there a took which someone could recommend which would help me get off the larger nut so I could remove the sleeve? I am not sure how I would get enough torque on it.

Here it is. You can see the metal sleeve covers the prop nut. I am assuming the largeer nut behind the metal sleeve needs to be removed.

Thats goofy, Ive never seen that before. It looks like some kind of prop lock or something. The outer washer that you see with the notches in it, on the outside of the stainless thing that is covering the nut is actually what comes off after you get the nut off. So the stainless thing that is covering the nut is what you need to remove first somehow.

Maybe someone else will chime in, sorry.

I'm with Zack. I saw the pic earlier and didn't post because it looks like some kind of prop lock that I haven't seen before either. But I have to agree.. the main thing is that you get your nut off. err... I mean, that castellated nut is what you're really after... err... sheesh...

Obviously my mind is in the gutter so I could be way off... but the first thing that came to mind from the pic is the way that you take off keyed lugnuts on vehicles.

Keyed lugnut:

There are sockets that are just a concave cone inside so that they'll fit over the nut and they rely on friction to work. They actually work really well on those keyed lugnuts but it might bend that thing on your propshaft. A tire shop will most likely have one though. I hope someone has the right answer for you.

It almost looks like a prop sleeve that has somehow forced its way out. Have you tried (lightly) tapping on it with a rubber mallet or hammer & block of wood to see if it will slide back into the prop? The same idea with a heavy screwdriver might just loosen that castle nut. Again tap lightly....
