Default model project

hi guys
sorry i have not been very active on the site, my wife has had another operation and its hard work with my buisness with the recesion as it is.

i am looking for plans of my mariah , because i would like to see if i can make a model of it, i like making things and it would be a very interesting project. plus it would keep me out of the wifes way, i cant think of anything better than me down in my workshop and her indoors watching tv, so if any one has any idea of where i can pick up plans that would be great.

all the best

Sounds like a very interesting project Ed. Hopefully one of the admin guys or possibly an ex Mariah employee might be able to help out.

    Hi Ed, interesting project indeed!

Unfortunately, I don't think that finding any plans or blueprints will be possible at this time...

That said, you have the next best thing, the actual boat! Many model builders have created plans then replicas from just photos of the real thing. I've owned several custom models made from photos off of the TV for some of the old SciFi shows.

I suggest taking some pictures from directly above (and below if that's possible), the sides, front and back and others areas of fine detail like the dash, seats, sun deck, hatches, sterndrive, etc... The more the better for reference. Then you could try to convert the pictures to "Line" drawings using a good graphics program. Corel and Photoshop should be able to do the task, of course a little cleanup may be involved but it can help get your project going.

You can also try the old fashion method of using a light box to illuminate the photos from beneath and using good ol' tracing paper to start your plans.

Give ShabahZ250 a jingle as he may have some better ideas since he is involved in the graphics field.

Good luck and when you get it done, post some pictures!

    thanks willy

i have already started scaling it down from pictures. the best scale i think i will work to is 1 / 74th. i have also started with a spine and formers. just to get an idea of the hull shape . i am going to try to make a wooden hull as a template and make the model in fibreglass if possible.

at least it will keep me out of the missuses way for a while

will keep you informed as i progress

    Hi Ed,

It's been a long while since I've done any scratch modeling... at 1/74th scale, isn't your model going to be around 4 inches long? If so, you've got a lot better eye sight and patience than me to incorporate all the details on such a mini scale!

I second what Irace82 said, if you can, please document with pictures. I know many on us would like to see you Mariah as it's being created.

    Aw, that's more like it!

What are we talking about here, say around 20 inches or so, right? That's going to be one heck of a model, now throw in a couple of batteries, a receiver and servos and it's a RC Mariah!

OK, it was just a thought...

Can't wait to see the first pics!

    Good luck,
    WetWilly

I liked the idea of an RC version of my previous boat. I owned a MB Sport B-52 wakeboard boat and found an RC wakeboard boat that was about 15" long. Some red paint and matching graphics later.......Mini Me!
