New upholstery for sun deck/engine cover

You can see the engine cover / sun deck on my '95 is in bad shape and needs to be replaced. We kept the boat in outside storage for 2006-2007 and this damage was directly attributable to that.

This time last year I showed up at the storage yard in Pueblo only to find cigarette type burns all over hte new cover. According to the storage yard at the Marina they had burned tumbleweeds --- but it 'couldn't have been {them}'.

We now keep her in a garage year around and this is the first of many projects I have scheduled for the summer.

I received back my reupholstered sundeck/engine cover. After cleaning the shelf above the engine with Mr. Clean pads (thanks for the tip on the forum!) with the help of my Dad I reinstalled the new cover. I am very pleased with the outcome.

$915 total.

Looks really good. I have a 1994 220Z and need to do the same thing. But with that kind of money I will have to wait one more season.

Yours looks wonderful compared to my entire interior. :) Too many years in the desert (NV) without a cover (before we owner her) is the culprit I'm thinking. Not to mention we had a really bad hail storm about 2 years ago which dealt the final blow. Pretty much every surface in the boat has some sort of spider cracking like you show in your pic. Our back deck looks a dog tore it up or something. I'm currently trying to save up enough to buy the fabric needed to redo the entire interior.

Re: New upholstery for sun deck/engine cover

My Boat is currently in the Upholstery shop to get the Sun Deck and the Rear Bench Reupholstered. (The heavy traffic areas)

I ordered enough of the Original Material with the Prefixx Protective Finish, from Omnova Solutions to redo the entire interior. I am replacing it over 2 seasons to help offset the cost of the Material all at one time.

The small samples of material matched up pretty well so I am anxious to see how well a bigger piece matches up. My boat has been stored indoors but I'm sure there will still be some fading compared to the new material. This will be a good test to see how well it has held its original color since 1995.

The material should be in early this week so I will let you know.

If anyone is interested in seeing or purchasing material from Omnova, let me know. I had to order at minimum a Full Roll of Material to set up an Account with them. After the suppliers they referred me to sent samples (supposedly of the same Material) that was not nearly as heavy in weght as the factory sent, I decided to through the Factory.
Their Web Site is very helpful and they do show the different colors and styles of materal that they still make.

Thanks to the Forum for having this info available.:wink_thumbup:

Re: New upholstery for sun deck/engine cover

The fabric is called Nautolex with Prefixx and is manufactured by a company called Omnova Products. Be aware though, Mariah used a fabric weight that was over 3x more thick than all other boat manufacturers, I believe it was 64oz while everyone else was using around 18oz.

I don't think you can purchase it as a consumer, but your local upholstery place should be able to pick it up. Just be aware, it's probably a bit more expensive than standard replacement vinyl, but if you want a true OEM quality, go with the Nautolex with Prefixx.

The Prefixx coating allows it to be cleaned with a mixture of acetone and water, pure acetone is only recommended for very bad stains. There's reading material available on Omnova's website.

If you are interested in purchasing material and need some help, contact me and I can give you the persons name that I worked with. They were very helpful and even sent out samples for me to match up the colors.
I'll let you know that I had to create an account and order a full roll of material in order to purchase from them.
