Default slow motor shut down

Hi guys, When turning of the motor most times it slowly crankes over for another 5-10 seconds before stopping. Anyone had the same problem or any suggestions. this

It sounds like your engine is 'dieseling' which is usually caused by fuel igniting without a spark. This condition is usually seen with carbureted engines and generally involves the fuel mixture being too lean or too rich. Try a can or two of good carbon cleaner in the gas tank, check/adjust the timing to specs and then use a tank or two of premium fuel (avoiding stuff like gasohol, high alcohol content or other blends) from a name brand vendor and see if that helps.

First, its an engine not a motor. Engine is a combustion driven power source. A motor is a power source of drive NOT of a combustion variety. Sorry, I'm a Diesel Tech Supervisor, that just is a pet peeve for someone to say "motor" when talking about an engine. Second, this thread should be in the SeaFox section of this forum, due to it being a late model "Mariah". Third, your engine is what we call "Dieseling", this could be because issues from the fuel is not shutting off when you shut the engine down to you might have water in the cylinders. This is something I would take to the marina and have them diagnose it and be sure exactly what it is before I go tooling with. It's not going to cost all that much for a hour of D&A and will save you from buying needless part and spending countless hours trying to find yourself.

Along with what Mikey said another thing that can aggravate this is too high of engine speed at idle. There aren't too many things that cause this and its usually pretty simple to remedy. Just to make you feel better, I'm an ASE certified Master Engine Machinist and call them motors and engines depending on the day.

I wonder if convick aka engine_Nazi has ever "engineboated" his wife, or been to Engine City, MI. Have you heard that recent country song about "engine boatin" on a pontoon?

Convick probably calls his router a modem, says he gets on "the Hotmail" to check out the Mariah forums, and calls his weekly game of table tennis "ping pong"!

Just kidding, but ease up in the guy, a lot of people use the term motor when talking about their boat when everyone knows they mean "the thing that guzzles all my gas".

Paul F and Zackattack like this.
