Default Using power tool near engine/depth finder

I am replacing my Lowrance depth finder with a new Faria. The Faria transducer, unlike the Lowrance puck style, has a separate base that is first attached to the hull and filled with liquid. The separate transducer is then attached to the base with a twist lock. The current hole below the engine where the original transducer was is about 2 - 2.5" round. The new one requires a hole at least 4". My question is, will it be safe to use a power tool such as a Dremel to enlarge the hole in the fiberglass being so close to the engine. Even though the boat hasn't been run for a couple of weeks there is a little gas smell. I can't imagine trying to do it by hand, but I wouldn't want a spark to possibly occur near the gas. Has anyone had experience with something like this? Thanks.

I just run the blower for about 5 minutes before starting work and i've also had a habit of setting up a small house fan to blow fresh air into the engine area.... and i'm still here.
