On my 202 the panels to the left and right of the engine come off with just a few screws. Then there is plenty of room...

Wolfgang, I'm not sure how to help you out here. According to Mariah promo material, the Z308 has "Easy Bilge & Engine Access". Apparently not!

What type of service are you wanting to perform? Maybe it'd be better to let a service facility or marina do the work? They're probably much more familiar with working in small cramped engine areas.

What did you want to control with the exhausts? Are you referring to a "Silent Choice" exhaust where you can choose to divert the exhaust out the outdrives or the thru-hulls?

With your boat being stored in the water, I would definitely not recommend any repairs below the waterline by yourself, as one wrong move could turn out to be a disaster very quickly.

Hi Guys,

I think what Wolfgang is trying to say is, he wants to check the exhaust to make sure sea water can’t get into the engine. In other words, check the exhaust flapper at the bottom of the exhaust "Y" pipe.

As for engine access, if his engine bay is anything like this picture I found at "yachtworld.com” of a Z308;

Then I would definitely follow ShabahZ250’s advice and look for a service facility or marina to do the work. If your engine bay is as tight as the one pictured, then unfortunately it looks like it would require that the engine be removed to gain access to the lower exhaust system.

Actually that boat is mislabeled, as it's a Z302 not a Z308.

The Z308 Wolfgang owns has twin 5.0L v8s. When I took my boat in for winterization, they informed me my flappers had either been removed, or had just destroyed themselves, as the dealer told me, "They just weren't there".

If your boat is due to come out of the water, it is a job that you could probably do, however it'd be very cramped. The flappers sit on top of the Y connector for the exhaust. The parts for my 7.4L MPI were $40. However they charged me $200 of labor to install them. After looking at the Mercruiser diagram, I could have done it myself. I'll look and see if I can find the diagram for your engines and then you can figure out if it's something you're willing to tackle by yourself.

Hi and Thank you for help!

I will have a look if there is a problem with my flappers also, but i also want to have a look inside the exhausts if there is a rust problem or if the are damaged so that cooling water can get inside - and this is my problem because the screws of the exhaust knee are nearly unreachable (sorry for my terrible english).
