Question Drift to one side & alarm at WOT

Hey everyone,

Got two things first one, a drift to the left while cruising has been there since the being of the season. Almost like it needs an alignment. Have to turn the steering wheel about an 1/8 to the right to get it to go straight.

Second one happen on this last trip out. WOT 4500 RPM got an alarm. Only happen if I run a few mins WOT/4500 and as soon as I would pull back to 4400/4300 the alarm would end. any thoughts?
Water Temp = Good ~175/180
Oil Pressure = Good
Outdrive Fluid = Full

Thanks

One thing to check for on the drift problem...Many outdrives have a zinc trim tab/sacrificial anode on the lower unit just above the prop.I know mercruiser outdrives have an allen bolt that goes in from the top to secure the tab. This tab is adjustable, simply loosen the bolt and move the tab left or right and retighten to help the boat track straight. These tabs are also notorious for getting loose and falling off making the torque steer effect from the propeller very evident. Some other possible problems not so easy to correct would be a bent skeg, slack in the steering linkage etc. The alarm problem could be a few things. The first thing I would check is exactly what is the engine temp when the alarm sounds. Is it in fact a temperature alarm, some engines have an oil pressure alarm also. It could be a faulty sensor, loose connection, or an actual temperature problem. When is the last time the impeller was changed, is the motor trimmed up extremely high when u are at wot, making it hard for the impeller to pick up water. These are just some things that come to mind. Hope it helps.

    Happy Boating
    Dan
