Default Engine stalling problem

This has happened the last 2 times at the lake. Accelerating from being stopped before getting on plane the engine will stall and die. No sputtering. Happened on more aggressive accel but does not happen every time. Sometimes when starting I have to adjust the throttle lever slightly to find neutral.
Could there be a problem in the throttle lever with the neutral indicator? New fuel filter last week.

Thanks.

Sounds like Fuel to me, is there a place you can get ethenol free fuel, I just found a place here and am going to try it out. I would use some fuel additive and see if that helps.

I'd have to check around. I do use seafoam at the start of the season though.

Sounds like fuel issue.... It's a long shot, but if you cant find it in the fuel, (Keep in mind that I'm not an expert here, and I could be totally wrong) but here goes... I was told that mercruisers have a switch that "kills" the ignition for just an instant when shifting from the neutral position.... This is to allow the gears to mesh easier... it's possible that the switch (however it works) could be jacked up... Possibly shorting out due to the G-Forces on a hard acceleration...

It sounds to me like it could be your accelerator pump at your carburetor.

I do not think it is due to fuel. Though today's blends are terrible for boats, I think you have two separate problems. The accelerating problem can be related to the distributor. I was experiencing a stall but it never stopped the engine and an old distributor was the cause. As for the neutral stall issue look at the shift cable. If it is not working correctly the interrupt kill switch will stop the engine.

I had a similar problem this weekend but it didn't stall. I've got a 94 Z240 Talari 7.4L Bravo I. I would accelerate and just before I would get up on plane, the rpm's would slow all the way down to idle speed. I never lost power. I could pull the throttle handle back to idle and then power right back up again. If I increased the speed slowly it would eventually get up on plane and the speed would stay up there without any problems. This happened after doing about an hour or so of very slow cruising/idling towing small children on a tube.

I called my boat guy and he said it might be water in the gas, but the loss of rpm's was very smooth- no sputtering or loss of power. It was just like I pulled the throttle back. So, I'm wondering what else it could be.

    Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

I don't know really what to do about it. There is a fuel line that runs a little close to the block we might try re routing to see if that helps.
