Default Navigation Light Tie-In

Hello MOC,

I posted this question as a follow-up to another wiring question, but I think it got buried, so I hope it isn't a problem if I start a new thread.

The question I have is, what is the best way to tie a tower navigation light to the existing stern drive navigation lighting?

Any insight is greatly appreciated.

Thank you and have a great day,

Kris

I would probably just find the wires that run to the stern nav lights and follow them back to the switch on the dash then splice into those. The extra current draw should be fine with the OEM wiring. The tricky part will probably be getting the wires to your tower then. What kind of tower did you get?

    Hi Mike,

Thanks for the reply. I got the Assault Tower by aerial and over the weekend got the wires routed from the top of the tower to under the dash. Now I just need to splice into the existing wiring. My plan is similar to what you said, but I think I am going to try to use a volt meter to check and see which set of wires are for the stern light.

As for the splice, I think I can just use a butt splice with heat shrink tubing. From what I can tell that is the best practice to prevent corrosion.

Thank you and have a great day,

    Kris

You may to invest in liquid electrical tape and coat your connections with that first. That will garantee an air tight connection then heat shrink over it.
