The stern drive fluid leaks before the stern drive. How do I locate the leak without taking off the gimble?

If the sterndrive fluid is leaking back into the bilge area there is a good chance that you have bad oil seal on the outdrive shaft. I have a Bravo 1 that began leaking like this last year. To fix, the outdrive must be pulled. It is a pretty straight forward repair but requires some special tools and knowlege. If the outdrive is going to be removed you will want to have the bellows, gimbal bearing, u-joints, and engine coupler inspected and serviced at that time. The engine and outdrive will also need to be checked for allignment. Good luck!
