Default 216 talari pros and cons

Hello to all,

current Four Winns 258 Vista owner, 1997, looking for a smaller and sportier cuddy, considering a 1998 216 Talari.

Any feedback, pros and cons, issues of concern?

Boat is well maintained, with 5.7 Merc, basic Merc o/d.

sale obviously pending mech inspection etc.

Any problem with spare parts for mariah given the change of ownership?

Thanks to all for any feedback

SA

I cant speak for the boat itself but in a sense there was no real 'change of ownership'. The original Mariah simply shut down and Sea Fox bought the name. The new Mariahs are not like the old Mariahs. The original Mariah made most of their parts in house so there is no easy source for Mariah specific parts (seats / graphics etc). Now, that being said.....Mercruiser / Volvo parts are easy to come by, switches / lights etc are still easily found and advice and help of our members here is free! Most of the time someone here can point you in the right direction for whatever you need or help you fix whatever problem you're having. Pre 2001 Mariahs are excellent boats.

Have you taken a look at the sticky at the top of this forum? There are some helpful webpage links and contact names/numbers to getting some replacement parts for the Mariah boats.

Mikeyt basically said it all however

Like mikeyt said, the original in-house parts are virtually impossible to come by. These parts include things like all the stainless hardware, grab rails, exhaust tips, hinges, seat brackets, and specialized bracketry for things like the power engine hatch.

However, this website can point you in the direction of parts that were outsourced, and suitable OEM replacement parts. We've got tons of members who can help figure out problems, and share information about how they did it. Plus we have a pretty good database of materials that could help in the contributors section.

I say go for it, if you think it's a good deal. You won't be disappointed.

    We canucks love our Mariahs.

If the boat has been well maintained, it's all pro...

I took my boat over to storage on Sunday. ..sniff... The fellow who runs the place was telling me how "rare" these boats are (he only sees 4 regularly including mine) and how lucky I am to own one. I was

Where do you store your boat? Inside / outside? Cost? I'm just making arrangements with CAS Marine to winterize mine (i want them to check a few things since this is the first year i've owned it) and then i'll likely put it into storage before Thanksgiving (our Thanksgiving for our US friends!).

I have a 215 Talari circa 1996, your 258 Vista is on our short list of boats that we are looking at... Perhaps we should talk?
