Default Subwoofer mounting question

Trying to place a sub box. I feel the best location is in the stern just in front of the outdrive hydraulic. I had a question regarding mounting it, I'm most likely going to use ss mounts and I wanted to know if anyone could tell me if I can just mount it to the floor with 1-1.5" ss screws or if I should do something different??

I don't think I would screw it down to the floor. Any screw holes can lead to water soaking into the floor, possibly deteriorating the wood years down the road. If you just want it to sit still and not move around, try screwing the "hook" side of a piece of velcro onto the box. This will grip the carpet enough to keep the box from moving. Also, if something happens to the trip pump, it will be easy to move the box to access it.

I not familiar with your particular boat, but if the sub is going under the sunpad/engine deck, you're going to lose nearly half the volume when the lid is closed due to the confined insulated area it's in. Just a heads up on that as it was the original location of my 2 12"s. Now they're right in front of the kick panels in front of the driver and passenger seats. They're much louder and I've gained valuable storage space back from under the sunpad. The only drawback to doing that is now I'm always heading north according to my compass!

Hah...I like the compass remark. I went ahead and placed it in the stern in front of the outdrive hydraulic mechanism. Yeah, I'm aware about drilling into the floor, I sealed it with 7200 around the threading/latches. It sounds great imo, I'm going to post some photos later. It's just a 10" in a sealed box, but wow, so much thump and so much better. Worth every effort.

Oh, and I hear you on placement in front of the kick panels, I thought the same exact thing initially, however, there's just not enough space in mine...

Sorry for the late response here, but I did the same thing as 1999Mariah. I have a 10" subwoofer in a bandpass box in the stern of mine. I actually don't even have it mounted down because it fits perfectly between the panels in the back. It's not the greatest of the most expensive setup, in fact I believe I paid about $100 for the sub and the amp brand new. The sub is a "C4", and the amp is a 600W Pyramid. However, it sounds great, and definitely adds a kick to the factory stereo. Since bass frequencies are completely non-directional, I wanted to place it somewhere out of the way. Under the sunpad worked great with the ports facing up seemed to give me the best overall sound. Plus my girlfriend enjoys laying up there with it on.

I wanted something I could remove in the wintertime, and as someone who's had their stereo and equipment stolen off a previous boat, I wanted something that wasn't going to crush me if it happened again. I've attached a pic, probably a little tough to see it, (look for the chrome ports) but you can get the idea.

Yeah man, you and I were on the same wavelength on the placement of the sub for sure. n

I also raised the box off the floor (to lessen the likelihood of water) with some starboard strips too,
