Default shabah question - blower

Does the shabah series has an engine compartment blower on it? One that needs to be turned on b4 starting? The one I looked at Sunday did not.
It is a 1997.

    Hi Joe,

All Mariahs with I/Os have bilge blowers. It is a mandatory safety device designed to vent built up gas vapors out of the engine compartment to prevent a possible fire and/or explosion.

The recommended procedure is to run the bilge blower for 4 to 5 minutes before starting the motor and they also recommend running the blower when traveling at slow speeds as there may not be enough air flow through the vents.

If anyone has a broken bilge blower, do not operate your Mariah until you get it fixed. Lifting the motor hatch isn't enough, gas vapors are heavier than air so it can build up and stay in the bilge.

For those looking for the bilge blower, follow the vent hoses from the motor compartment vents located at the rear sides or back of the hull. Follow these vent hoses down and to the rear of the bilge you should see the blower, it will look like a white or black plastic tube the same diameter as the hose with two wires coming out of it. The exhaust side should be connected to a hose running up to a vent while the intake side should be open to the bilge.

I had the same type problem with mine when I got it a few weeks ago. Simple enough, it was just a faulty connection at the fuse panel, under the dash. Remove connections and reinstalled, works like a charm now.

Check out this picture, its what happens when engine vapors explode.

Obviously my 95 Z212 has one. I took the 2 black vent covers off to repaint them gloss black and clear them to find only 1 of them is actually a vent. The other is just for looks, theres no hole or hose running to it. Thought that was a bit odd...

Anyone seem to go through blower motors often? I have a 180 Diablo and the previous owner said he has had to replace the blower several times. Looks like it's susceptible to taking water thru the vents.....
    Any ideas?

My 2000 252 shabah's blower recently started making a noise. I went to West Marine picked up a replacement for $35. It was a simple matter to replace.
