I had a recent unusual experience that I thought I'd share. When I tried starting my 1999 Shabah the key got stuck in the start position. I could not turn the key back off. The starter kept turning over and over. Being new to boating I was in a panic to get the starter to stop turning over. It took me a good minute or two to figure out that by turning off the battery switch in the engine compartment it cut the power to the starter. I had a tow back to the dock and had to replace the ignition switch. Unfortunately I had to snap the original Mariah key off to get the ignition switch out. Lesson; REMEMBER THE BATTERY POWER SWITCH.

After a day at sea on Saturday, trailered the boat and attached the hose to the earmuffs ready to flush all that nasty salt out. Got in the boat and turned the key which just snapped off in the lock. Had to tow it home and get a spare key cut before I could flush the engine. Will always keep a spare key in the tool kit from now on.
