Default New and looking to buy a Mariah?

Hi all,

I am new to your forums as well as Mariah boats. I just sold a 89 Maxum 23' that I hated only had it two weeks. I was looking on ebay and noticed a Mariah for sale and the boat just caught my eye. Its a Talari 240z bowrider with 7.4ltr mercruiser but its a little out of my price range right now. My question is I like the looks of the Talari and there is a 1994 Mariah 182 Barchetta open bow with 4.3LX merCruiser for sale somewhat close to me. Guy says interior is clean and runs good. How fast will this boat go? What type of lighting does this have compared to the Talari? Do the two boats even compare? The Barchetta is only asking price of $6,000.00. And the Talari is $8800.00 but it needs a little paint and gel coat. I really like the looks of the Talari and was wondering if the Barchetta would due in place of the Talari. Or should I just wait till next season when I have more funds and get the Talari if I can find one?

Thanks all and great site

Brad

Welcome to the board Brad! You've come to the right place for all your Mariah info.

Comparison-wise, I don't think the two boats compare, you're talking a difference of 6ft. Think about your boating needs first. Do you plan to tube/ski/watersports stuff? Is fuel economy a big concern for you? Then maybe you should consider the 18' Barchetta.

Do you plan to take large amounts of people onboard? Are you financially able to fill a larger tank? Are you prepared to do a little work? Do you want to stick around the same size as your Maxum? Then think about the Talari.

As far as buying one, don't rely on ebay for your boat buying needs. You may find a deal on there, but chances are you might not. There's many other sites to check out for boats for sale.

    boats.com, iboats.com, boattraderonline.com, boatsville.com, etc.

And I suggest you think about it for a while, narrow down what you're looking for. Don't jump on something just because it's cheap. Take your time. It took me over a year and a half to find my Z250! And you'll always find the best deals during the off season.

Another piece of advice, If you become a contributor to our site, we have all the brochures available for downloading. You can check out all the models available and get some better ideas for what you'd like to find, and you can compare models as well. Plus we've got a bunch of other stuff for contributors. Just hit the "Donate" button for more info!

Welcome aboard Brad! My thoughts on the Barchetta vs the Talari echo Chris'. I also agree with taking your time and getting the right boat at the right price. That way you get what you need at a fair price and you likely wont be surprised by problems with the boat. You have come to the right place though. Everything there is to know about Mariah's is here somewhere and being a contributor to the club gives you access to our knowledge base & documentation that our admin guys (Chris & Ryan) have spent months pulling together for our benefit.

you said you were not happy with your maxum....why?
that may help in determining what you do want?

personally, i have a 95 182 barchetta, but if i ever get another mariah it will be a "Z" package or nothing

and to answer your questions mine goes about 45 unloaded, pulls everyone doing everything fine except me (6'4" 300#)
i can do everything but slalom

but like they said, it depends on what you do
i live around allot of small lakes with shallow channels so i don't want a big boat

HUGE difference in a 240 and 182, totally different purposes

    Default Questions on Talari

    Brad-

Definitely you should buy a Mariah.

I have a 1995 Talari z240 and swear by it. I'm 39 and have been around boats my entire life and I this is the best boat I've ever been around.

Rides like a champ, smooth across the water. All the amenities... all of them!

We have the 7.4L Merc with Bravo III dual-prop outdrive. If you can afford the TalariI would highly recommend it.

Let me know if you have any questions about the boat. We just got back from the lake and my wife is yelling at me to help put the kids in bed - goodnight!

    Thanks for all the input.

My Maxum was old and was needing alot of work. I saw a 1994 Mariah Talari 240z bowrider on ebay and was hooked on the looks and lines of the boat. I starting doing some research and it just seemed like a different type of boat. The interior looked very impressive as all the amenities that came with the boat. I did not purchase the one on ebay. I feel it went for a fair price but the owners stated it should be repainted and re-gel coated due to sun fade. I will keep looking and for me at least it will be the talari. I will be on the lake most of the time so a bigger boat makes sense. Thanks to everyones input.

I have a Mariah for sale. Asking just what is owed against it. Can see it at Illinoishomepage.net, go to classifieds, then boats. I need to sell it not that I want to. It is a wonderful ride. I love it but got in a jam. I also am including 4 adult life jackets and tube. Am getting it ready for the winter this weekend. If you go to that site to see it can email me for any questions you may have. Thanks, Donna
