Default Found my small leak!

I finally found the source of about 1 qt of water shipped during each boating trip in my 97 Z210. During our last trip out Big Red started to whine a little a low rpms, so we pulled into Doyne's Marine on Burns Ditch (Lake Michigan) and had the kindly mechanic who was a classmate of mine go for a ride. With the hatch up and the seat forward, we heard the whine coming from the automotive water pump on the 5.7LX. And then I saw the water dripping from the pump! My classmate also reported water coming from the weep hole on the water pump. He used his stethoscope and said that the whine seemed to emanate from the forward bearing on the water pump.

Outstanding. A cheap repair that I can handle myself. When I get to changing the water pump this winter, Big Red should be bone dry in the bilge next summer.

Regards,

Congrats on finding the problem. I hope you'll be replacing it with marine grade parts!

    Default Water leak

A good reminder that when you hear that whining type noise it can be a few things, the water pump(if it's an automotive type), power steering pump, a ps or alternator belt or sometimes a timing chain. If you've got the noise, you've got a problem!
