Default New member w/ boat problems!

Hello everyone,

I just wanted to say what a help this site has been to me already!! I bought a 1996 18' Mariah Shabah this past weekend, we took it out on Saturday and absolutely loved the beauty of the boat. However, we are having a few (hopefully minor) problems. The first 2 being that the dashboard lights, navigation lights, & speedometer do not work. We are going to take it to a marine shop and get them fixed, hopefully it won't be too much. The other problem that does worry us is that whe we turn off the boat, it acts as if the enginge doesn't want to stop. As if its sputtering. The boat runs beautifully on the water, idles well, and has excellent get up and go. I am just worried about the not shutting off problem. Any suggestions???

Glad you like your new Miriah! Mine does the sputter shut down too. What I have been told is that it is due to heat. As in ambiant air temp. when it is below 95 deg mine stops doing the sputter when it's hotter it want to keep running. The fix might be timing but I dont know for sure sorry. Try letting it idle for a min before you shut it down that helps mine to.

Ok I will definitely keep that in mind, I was thinking about having someone look at that when I take it in for the lights. It's a beautiful boat and I just would like all the lights & speedometer to work. Hopefully, this sputtering is just a minor kink!!

The sputter is called "deiseling". It's caused by heated carbon deposits in your cylinders igniting fuel after you turn off the ignition. Two solutions. Either use premium gas, which has a higher ignition point, or have your engine timing set back or "retarded" slightly. Good luck!
