Default Throttle Control - Mercury recall

We were getting ready to leave for our week long vacation last week at Grand Lake in Colorado (right by Rocky Mountain National Park) and I threw the muffs on the outdrive and started her up to make sure everything was running well.

When I pushed in the 'Neutral' button on the throttle control it wouldn't come out - not allowing me to put into gear; forward or reverse. Ended up leaving the boat at home, yes a bummer and I am replacing the throttle control unit.

As it turns out the Mercury Quicksilver 3000 from the mid-90's has a substantial list of recall part numbers. I am attaching the recall notice which could affect all 1994-1995 Mariah's and also the throttle control that I ended up buying from TeleFlex.

It will be here this week, I'll try to meet the newly raised tutorial bar!

    Hi bdbyrnes,

Please post some pictures of the Teleflex installed, I was considering the CH1700-211010 to replace our controller but wanted to see how far the handle stuck away from the panel.

I'll need to do something soon as our 3000 is getting really stiff from wear & tear. Our mechanic checked and lubed the throttle and shift cables, they're still good but it appears that lube inside the 3000 is no more and the bushings are worn. He recomended replacing rather than rebuliding. He didn't care for the Commander series and thanks to you, I know why.

    Thanks,
    WetWilly

Is the Commander 3000 the same as the Quicksilver 3000? I didn't think it was but from your post I wasn't sure. I have the Commander 3000 but my boat is a '97 Shabah..5.7 Alpha one and the '97 wasn't listed above. I'm having the same problem, boat runs great but doesn't want to shift properly from gear to neutral. Was hoping it was just the cables but not sure. Been out all summer not wanting to get stuck in the lake when it goes out all the way. Trying to figure something out fast and cheap to get in the last 3 or 4 weeks of the season.
