Default z302 lanyard problems

Hey guys, I just recently bought a z302. I was running some speaker wire and now can't get it to start. It will turn over but not start. I started doing some digging and noticed I only have 1 pink wire running to my lanyard switch. It ties into the harness under the dash and i lose it from there. I assume I'm supposed to have 2 wires. My question is do any of you know what color the other wire is supposed to be and how can I run another wire to it and from where? I am also not opposed to bypassing it back in the engine compartment for now to get on the water. Thanks for any info.

    I believe all Mercruiser wire harness colors are the same. Are you sure the wire color to your lanyard switch is pink? They eventually go back to the dashboard as purple wires. There should be four wires coming out of your shifter, not including the trim/trailer harness. Two Yel/Red for the neutral safety start switch and two Purple for the lanyard/kill switch. The two purple wires connect the "I" or "Run" terminal on the back of the key switch to the "Bat" or "I" terminals on all the gages. This Purple wire makes its way all the way back to the large connector on the engine, to Pin 5 and provides power to the ignition relay. Happy Hunting.

    Thanks for your reply. So out of my stalk aside from neutral switch I have purple red and green that go back to my trim pump. Out of my key I have 2 red on one prong, 2 purple on another and 2 yellow/ red on the 3rd which I assume are the neutral switch. They all tie into a harness. I have one pink into the lanyard switch and that ties into the harness. So maybe the pink is just a ground and I'm chasing the wrong demon all together.

    Pink wire is for the fuel gauge sender unit. Standard wiring colors are listed on page 14 of the .pdf listed in this STICKY;
