Default Top Speed Diablo with 90hp Mariner Outboard

I recently acquired a Diablo (1993) outboard with a 90hp Mariner engine. I get about 35 to 40mph when solo and about 30 to 35mph with 4 people on board. I think the boat was primarily used for skiing. Does anyone know if these speeds are reasonable given the boat, engine and loads?

I would guess pretty good. Your older Diablo is probably a bit lighter than my 2000 18' Diablo. We have the 3.0 135 hP I/O and I think I would need to find a downhill section of the lake to break 40 mph.

Thanks for the reply it is helpful. I grew up near Niagara Falls and we shied away from the downhill sections of the lake for obvious reasons.

Ha Ha, I guess you got my joke. Here in TN it is rare to really even experience much current so we might get a little help from the wind but that's about it.
