Default 1994 Z222 Top Speed

Looking for any advice on what the top speed others may be getting with setups close to mine.
1994 Z222
Freshly rebuilt 7.4L Bravo 10 hrs
Bravo 1 outdrive
Mercury Mirage Plus 14.75" x 19 Prop

The boat is timed to 8 degrees BTDC and appears to be running great throughout all RPM ranges. However I am only getting around 43 mph @ 4000 rpm.

Any help would greatly appreciated!!

RPM's a bit low unless it's over-pitched for some reason, like fuel economy. Can't really tell without knowing the outdrive ratio. RPM should be more like 4400 for MPI, 4600 for Magnum MPI. Is the bottom clean?

Oops didn't see your post about no FI. Still, 4000 seems low.

I think I need to run the RPM's up a little more. The engine is freshly rebuilt, so I've very hesitant in keeping it at the max 4800 RPM's. I will take it out tonight and see what happens on the gps.

Make sure you have done the recommended run-in period. The top end test can wait.

That sounds like the best approach! I've been running in 20 minute increments of different RPM's. Hopefully I can get the 10 hours on it in the next couple weekends. Do I need to change the oil and filter after the break in? I appreciate the help!
