Ok so found the damn coil just dangling off the back of the engine, looks busted in the center and a loose ground wire floating around in the vicinity. Where the hell is this thing supposed to be attached lol

Not sure where your busted ground wire goes. Try moving it in the arc that the wire allows to find where it could possibly go. You will be needing a new coil for sure. There is no way the boot can seal with the tower missing.

The setup I have bypasses what you're describing. The boot you're talking about goes to this thing on the left of the distributor and I have no idea why or what it is. Long story short though I solved it. When the coil fell off of wherever the hell it was incompetently mounted it yanked a positive wire loose. Once I reconnected it she fired right up

So, what in the hell is that module to the left of the distributor with the rinky-dink orange wire nut on top? Incidentally that is the wire that runs to the coil that popped loose and caused this problem in the first place. Why would it be set up this way instead of just running the distributor straight to the coil?

Yikes. Marretted wires on a marine application is bad news brother. Theres weather proof fitting for this. If thats a copper only marrette and its twisting aluminum wires, just asking for quick corrosion.

Even with anti oxidization lube even with low voltage, ( dc) electricity will find ( or make) an easy path to ground. Just like our outdrives, if the boats electrical isn't bonded properly, different alloys combined with electricity and moisture, its a chess game. Lol

Yeah there's a reason I only paid 1300 for the entire engine replacement... This is what I get lol

I would still like to know what that module is that wired between the distributor and coil

Wouldn't that be your ignition sensor?

I have no idea haha I thought the distributor usually went straight to the coil

Im curious now, maybe brain belcher or someone with a ton of motor knowledge will reply, normally, the guys will take a minute and set things straight. There's a lot of knowledgeable owners on this site!
