Default Bad Tach/Compass

Loos like my compass and tach are bad. How would I go about finding a replacement that matches?

Have you talked to Faria (assuming they are faria gauges), apparently their limited lifetime warranty coverage is great, maybe they can be fixed.

What are your gauges doing? My compass is not working right either, I'm wondering if they are both doing the same thing.

Last, since the boat is new to you, maybe its set up like mine, Mariah offered a 3 battery option with dual start batteries, and a separate deep cycle battery for running accessories, on a separate switch.

My GPS, radio's and cabin lights and I think the compass (not sure), are powered off this separate battery.

The switch is underneath the starboard cockpit seat.

Good luck I hope you get it sorted out.

Forgot to add, not a Z280 so options, and layout may be different from what I have.

Well, the tach wast working at all, and according to the tech at the marina there is power so he diagnosed it as the gauge,

The compass isnt moving at all, I wasnt aware it was battery powered so I will have him recheck it too.

How would I contact Faria about warranty work? The marina said they cant get a mathcing repacement

I sent an email to Faria this morning inquiring about my problem.

    Which is:

It initializes like it is supposed to, 225 degrees for a few seconds, but then it swings north and freezes within 10 or 15 degrees of north.

Faria responded by sending me the warranty service link.

    http://faria-instruments.com/warranty.php

And I found this .pdf with repair costs on their website.

    http://www.faria-instruments.com/sit...0_warranty.pdf

The compass is fairly expensive to fix, but the tach is only $30.

I saw on another thread that sometimes the cyl selector switch on the tach can get dirty and you need to switch it a fet times to get it to read right. Might be worth trying too.

    HI Wolf

On the backside of the tachometer there is a small set screw which allows once tach to be used for a variety of engines etc. It needs to be set to "8 cyl" but sometimes they get a little corroded so simply moving it around to a few different settings and then putting it on the '8 cyl' setting sometimes fixes the problem inexpensively as mis4tun81 has suggested.
