Can't believe I'm going to say this but im a noob.
1997 Z276 w/Merc 7.4 and BravoIII and I lost the up on my shifter trim switch. Traced it to being a bad trim sensor. There is a sensor on each side of the out drive but I can't figure out which one it is.
Next, is the only fix going to be tearing down the out drive to replace the sensor for wire routing ?
For now, I made a bullet bypass jumper but I'm annal and want my trim gauge working again.

Are you sure it's the trim sensor? Is it just the gauge that's not moving, or is the drive physically not going up? If it's physically not moving, there's two solenoids on the trim pump, one for up, and one for down. These are located on the trim pump in the engine bay, and according to my mechanic, the solenoids are prone to fail after long periods of time.

They can be sourced through Mercruiser, (~$50 each) or you can buy them online through various retailers, I believe I paid about $12 each for them through another source. They supposedly are an easy replacement (ironically, i'm replacing both of mine this weekend) But you know how tight the engine bay is with a genset in there, so this could be fun... Will update and let you know how it went.

Here bes what's I's learnt.
There are two. One is for trim indicator and the other is the limiter. Thankfully the limit sensor went out. I just made a bypass wire with a couple of bullet connectors.

Well I replaced both of the trim pump solenoids this past weekend. Took about 4 hours of uncomfortable contorting to do it, thanks to the crowded engine bay. You guys with the smaller boats will have it much easier and this should be a quick fix! Either way, thankfully it's done and trim is operating like it should.
