Default trailer bunks.. composite decking?

when i was bleeding the surge brakes on the trailer the other day i noticed its time for the trailer bunks to get replaced.

Has anyone done this yet using the composite wood, like what you would use for decks? i don't know how it could be any worse then what is there, making sure there is nothing im missing with that stuff.

Composites, as they are generally made out of some plastic blend, are commonly susceptible to creep. I would guess they would be stable but only if supported effectively. Also, I'm not sure what is out there that would fit dimensionally.... I don't know that I've seen 2x4 composite materials.

Consider that when using composite decking it is often suggested you tighten joist spacing especially on things like stair treads. 12" rather than 16". I think composite boards would be too flexible and not support as well as wood.

i took the flexing into consideration, there are only certain locations on the trailer to reattach. since im not a welder, i cant add any supports. I'm thinking i'm just going to go back with wood. it has worked for 10 years.

As long as you have a few nuts, bolts and screws left over after the job is done, it should work!

I would find the clearest, straightest grain piece of pressure treated lumber matching your existing bunk boards. It is probably PT now. Remember to use all galvanized or SS hardware on PT lumber.

Straight pressure treated is an oxymoron!
    You could also go redwood.
    Tn_diablo is likely right.

stainless steel connectors is the most important. the last person who replaced the bunks on my trailer felt stainless steel screws weren't worth the money. now i own the problem
