Default Bravo I trim problems

Right Guys,
Tho's of you who know me will know I can turn a spanner.
But i'm the first to put my hand up if there's something I don't know

Right to the problem,
My friend is having a problem with his Bravo I drive.
Now I have no experience with bravo dives so can anyone give me some bullit points as to what to check and look out for???

The main problem is that it won't trim down properly!
it will go down if the motor is running in gear and the prop is pushing against it, in fact it will go down on the button if someone is stood on the leg!
it trims up just fine! I've checked the fluid and the res is full.
can someone give me some pointers as to what I need to check/service. and while i'm at it service the whole leg

p.s I won't be insulted if you point out the obvious!

Many thanks
Andy B

Hmmm... you can be a spammer? right.

My thoughts: lets figure out if it's electrical or mechanical problem first and go from there. Does the trim pump run or even the relays click when you mash the button?
If the trim motor is working then try disconnecting the rams from the drive. Should be fairly easy and self explanatory once you look. Basically to see if one or both of the rams function without moving the drive. If it still doesn't work then i'm gonna suggest one or both of the rams are seized.
If the trim motor isn't working then i would first clean all of the connections at both the relays and the trim motor. If no better then consider replacing the trim relays & see if that fixes things.

Am I being over cautious then?
Is the setup on the bravo basically the same as the alpha?
like I say I've not had any dealings with a bravo leg before!
the pump it working there just seems no pressure when trimming down,
trimming up is fine. very strange! if the pump was shot or no oil I would have thought both operations would be compromised?

I've bled the system by getting someone to stand on the cav plate to help it go down!
The leg holds in place fine (doesn't drop on it's own) and trims up with someone stood on the cav plate!

I'm pretty sure the Bravo is very similar to the Alpha in this regard. That's why i'm suspecting the down trim relay as the most likely cause and then a seized ram as a secondary cause.

Have a quick look thru that Troubleshooting your Trim System sticky.

I was sure I was missing something Bravo related.....lol
like a check valve or something that I hadn't come across on and alpha.

the pump works in both directions and is "strong like bear" in the upward movement.
But when you push the down button it starts to trim down then stops!
if I get someone to stand on the leg the motor/pump will lift them easily and then on the downward movement it will go all the way!

trimmed the leg up and down about a dozen time at the weekend with my friend stood on it
    (Got some strange looks too)

But as soon as he stepped off it would only trim down about half way!

I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something simple before telling him to replace the pump!

ive got the same issue with my alpha 1 drive. trims up fine but not down so easily.
my guess its the rams but wont know until I take the boat out of the water. I know you can buy a service kit for the ram so lets see.
I did all the things MikeyT suggested like change the relays and check all connections and it didn't help unfortunately. Although still worth doing.
I did swap over the hydraulic pipes at the pump then it would trim down fine!

    good luck
