Default Outdrive Won't Lower

Hi All,

Like most of us I was getting my boat ready for the season this weekend. Popped a battery in and had no trouble raising the out drive with the trailer switch before bringing her out of the garage.

My trouble is the Alpha one will not lower with either the trailer switch or the throttle lever switch.

I can hear the solenoid click when I use either switch but that is all. The up works but I am fully up at this point.

Is there a trouble shooting procedure somewhere? I can't believe this might be the sensor itself. The boat is 3 years old and worked like a champ when I put her away last fall.

From what I understand the sensor is a real bear to replace.

Any help most appreciated.

Yep, Troubleshooting your Power Trim & Tilt Motor System. And if i had to hazard a guess, i'd say its either a bad connection at your 'down' solenoid or the down solenoid itself needs replacing. Do the troubleshoot first though.

Ok, got it. Was the lowering solenoid.

I'm a little miffed this would fail so soon. At least when you consider the $50 for the part only, that's just plain nuts.

This should cost no more then $10 tops.

    Default Trim Solenoid Alternative?

So I have a dead lowering solenoid and Merscrewzer wants $50 for a replacement.

Anybody find an alternative for this part? It's just a solenoid man, what 30 maybe 40 amp normally open?

This should not be more than $10 There must be something close to this in an aftermarket with a similar form factor.

    50 bucks, that's nuts.

Check to see if the fuse is bad. There is a inline fuse that controls the out drive.
