Post Captain's Choice on Z272 Shabah

Guys,

I'm thinking about installing a Captain's Choice exhaust system against my wife's wishes. Currently, it is a stock 7.4L (454) MPI.

I have a good deal on the diverters and solenoids, but will need to find the right tips.

How hard is this to do yourself and will I be able to take out the stock elbow pipe from the manifold riser, install the diverter tube, and run straight out the back of the transom without any modification?

The picture below is what my current setup looks like.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

    Hi 2000Z272,

The difficulty really depends of where you want the exhaust to come out and what it takes to route it there. The easiest of course would be straight back, but in some cases, there will be some kind of bend involved. With the right diverters and hoses, it should be fairly straight forward. As for the elbows, they should come out easily, but you might need a little "elbow" grease if their stubborn!

Is it a do-it-yourself job? Yes, if you're mechanically inclined and comfortable with making the measurements and cutting into the transom.

Check out these threads from our other members on the Corsa exhaust systems, they were used by Mariah so they may have tips for your Z272.

Cool Re: Captain's Choice on Z272 Shabah

2000 Z 272 Did you ever put the captains choice exhaust in your Z 272 ?? I have Captains choice( factory installed) I love the sound and my wife likes it because we can shut it off. The pictures of my 2000 Z 272 (GaryG's brown&tan) show the engine exhaust system and some pictures of stern where the exhaust comes out. Hope this might help. Let me know what you have done. Gary G

Just some food for thought before you install the captains call exhaust. I have the exhaust factory installed on a 98 Z210 Shabah, and in the state of New Hampshire, where I boat, that exhaust system is illegal to have. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love the sound of the thru hull, but I find myself sometimes hiding from the Marine Patrol.....
