Default Stuck Faria Tachometer

2003 SX22 with 5.0 mercruiser. Faria tachometer is stuck at 1000 rpm whether the engine is on or off. Boat has very low hours so it's not from excessive use...any ideas on the cause and possible remedies would be appreciated.

not an uncommon problem with lots of boat instruments. Mine does the same.
Have you tried tapping the glass to see if you can release it?
Might be a corroded earth connection if you can get to the back of the consul.
On my shabah 182 its really tricky.

think i saw once someone post that the faria instruments are guaranteed for life. But i guess an earthing issue wouldn't count.....

let us know if you discover a remedy....good luck.

Faria instruments do have a lifetime warranty. You'll have to contact them if you want to send it in to be tested and/or replaced. Try spinning the knob on the back of the tach a few times and then be sure you re-set it to "8 cyl".

Thank you for the reply's. I removed it from the console without much problem but every effort to get the needle to reset failed so I bought a new one at a local marina. I will still send the old one back to Faria and sell it after it's refurbished.
    mikeyt and Lewy like this.
