After looking at the "Original Parts List" and seeing the cost and availability of the unit , I'd take some measurements and hit Ebay or Great Lakes Skipper for one

my winter projects include the rebuild of the rear sear. Im doing away with the horse shoe shaped rear sear and making it straight across, moving the whole seat forward about 15". so actually I will need a longer throw or Ill have to mount it higher on the back of the seat to get the same lift.

I saw the ones that great lake skipper has. Ill give them a call tomorrow.

Not sure if these are the same, but here are the hatch lifts that I have had my eye on. I get very impatient waiting 5 minutes(slightly exaggerated!) for my hatch lift to open.

they too work. It's just the $300 price tag for a 15-18 extension thats killing me.

I looked at the ones you mentioned on Great Lakes and wow....what a difference in price! Somehow I have to figure out how to measure mine when it's closed to see how much throw I will need. Does anyone know if these will operate faster than the original worm gear motors from the factory?

Hatch lifts are like power windows Chris. The older they get the slower they go(Kinda like me LOL). The motor gets tired and dirty.
New one , or ones depending on your app will run way faster and way smoother and quieter too.

Mine is 18" closed. dont know what the throw is, but Im guessing at least 12". Frankly it doesnt open as far as Id like it to now, so I may re-mount it closer to the hinge.

I was told that a simple relay box, putting direct battery juice closer to the ram speeds them up.
