Default Mariah 200 Talari Z

Hello Mariah Forum
This season I will be new to the boating community. I live in Bethlehem, PA. I was searching for some used boats at the local shops and came across this boat that seams to be calling me. After looking at it and going over it with the dealer who is selling it on consignment no other seems to compare.
The boat seems to be a 93 but is listed as a 94 Mariah 200 Talari Z. It has the 4.3L Mercruiser W/Alpha one outdrive 180 HP, docking lights, courtesy lights, power driver seat, defroster, wiper, 2 boat covers, bow cover, top, matching trailer W/brakes. The color is beige/white with teal/green. The interior is very clean and the boat has 170 hrs. Hull is clean with a few minor smears. The boat is a two owner and was sold by the dealer each time. First time the original owner traded it in on a new sea ray. The second owner now is selling it at the original dealer on consignment due to deteriorating health issues. They have all the maitenance records on the boat. They are asking $9995.00
The question I have for the forum is according to NADA book this seems to be a little high. I was thinking of offering $8000 to $8500 and see where the chips lie.
What do you think of the described boat and price. You can see the boat at www.petersmarine.com.
Thanks in advance

Welcome to the board Brian. You've made the right choice by choosing a Mariah. It appears to be in great shape. I would ask for a sea trial/demo ride of the boat before buying it though. And there's never any harm in trying to negotiate a better deal. Worst thing they could do is say no. In which case, get up and start to walk out. Most of the time you can't make it to the door before they're willing to try and make another deal.

Also, write down or ask for the hull ID numbers. Those will help you determine what year the boat was made.

Good luck with it, and let us know how it turns out!

    Welcome aboard the Club Brian!

You have an interesting one here, the dash suggests a 1995 model not a 94 or a 93 and it has what Mariah called the Option #2 interior (driver bucket seat, passenger front/rear seating and no sundeck) and it certainly seems to have all the "Z" model features. By any chance you could get the serial number for us, it would help to verify the year.

As for NADA, the prices you’re getting do not include the trailer. On NADA’s site, there is no asterisk next to the model name so consider the trailer into your pricing. Of course the dealer is trying to make a small profit from the sale so it will be marked up a tad. All in all, considering the low hours and clean interior, the price isn’t that bad, but I like your idea of the offer, go for it, what's the worst that can happen?

But first, unless you are very familiar with the mechanics of a boat, I strongly suggest having it completely checked by a qualified service facility to insure you’re not going to inherit any unknown repairs shortly after purchase and as ShabahZ250 suggested, a sea trial/demo ride would be helpful as well.

Another thing, from the pictures, it has an Stainless Steel Skeg Guard on the out drive (I have the same one). It was a normal practice to install these over a damaged skeg rather than fixing it and without proper repainting of any damaged area, it could cause accelerated galvanic corrosion to take place on the lower skeg. However, having the Skeg guard doesn’t hinder performance or necessarily mean the skeg is bad but it would be wise to remove the guard to insure the paint is intact.

Keep us informed of your progress.

    Good luck,
    WetWilly

    Welcome to the forums!

Hmmm, yeah I'm kind of confused why in the description they say it is a 1993 boat.. but, they have it listed as a 1994? As mentioned by Willy and Shabah, jot down the HIN number off the stern of the boat and the last 2 digits will give you the proper year.

As for the price, probably $1000 ish of that is trailer price, probably a couple hundred bucks in a markup over what they paid for it. If they want $10K's for it, they should budge around the $9000-$9500 range. I think an offer of $8000-$8500 they would just hold out for someone else.

Remember, it is a Mariah .. not a Bayliner ..

Nice looking boat however. Looks very clean and the seats look to be in good condition as well. How about the condition of the tarps?

I still love that helm design...

    Default 1994 200 Talari

Thanks to all who replied. The hull id identified the boat as a 1994. Both the full boat covers are in good condition and have the notches for the cleats, all snaps intack. A 1/4 inch slice at the wiper arm. I did not unfold the convertible as i felt it was to cold. The bow cover was also nice. All the options worked. They are willing to hook up the water muffs to the outdrive and run it this way. They have never in Peters marine history allowed water trials. Even on their new boats. They are a full service dealership and have serviced the boat its whole life and have all the records at hand and will go over them at the time of offer. After reading the replies going back to peters with my wife and looking around some more i will put the offer in tonight. You were correct in saying that the trailer was not included in the price. It is painted to match and needs nothing. I think its a stylish boat for the year and i hope it can pull the teens on the tube.
Shold the passenger seat fold Flat?
Unfortunately i have to finance the boat and the best rate they can give me is 10.99 any other places to try that are reputable?
Thanks to all and hope to join the ranks here tomorrow.
    Brian
