Default new from Maryland

Hi, all. Im a new-comer to this site. not new to boating, but new to Mariahs. Hopefully, about to purchase a 2003 sx19 bowrider with 3.0 merc and alpha one. hoping that the owner and I can agree on a fair price. he's asking $8,900 and it comes with canvas covers, bimini, skis, towrope, life jackets, tube, anchor and other misc. safety equipment. no trailer. This boat has been used in salt water, so i suspect that the risers, bellows, and exhaust manifolds will need to be replaced sooner than later.

what do the experts here suggest as a good starting point for negotiations? personally, im leaning towards $7,200.00. basing this on a NADA average of 8700.00, and 8 year old risers, bellows, and exhaust manifolds that usually last 5-7 years in salt water. Im taking $1000.00 off for the risers/ manifolds and another $350 for the bellows, plus some extra for a buyers market. am i way off base?

thanks for the help and i hope to be a true member of this forum soon.

Welcome aboard! Unfortunately i'm going to have to leave your question to be answered by someone south of the border.

Interesting the seller would do that.

When we saw our Mariah, somebody had been to see her just before us. He wanted to take her for a check ride before dropping a deposit. He wouldn't be available for the check ride until 6 p.m. that evening. The seller warned him he wouldn't take the boat off the market. We were available right away. We went for the check ride, liked everything, gave the seller a deposit, and the rest is history.

We'd been looking at boats Shazaam!'s size for weeks. We knew, from hard experience, that above-average boats, in above-average condition, priced right tended to disappear very, very fast. Sometimes w/in mere hours of their being listed. You have to know what you want, what you're willing to spend, what to look for and what you're looking at. You have to be on top of the market, get to 'em quick and be ready to pull the trigger, w/o hesitation, when the right boat finds you.

We were surprised (and delighted) Shazaam! was still available by the time we got to her.

i was ready to pull the trigger. unfortunately, I had to work until 3 PM, and after i called and scheduled to see the boat (the 15th), the owner wasnt available until today. the other person called yesterday (the 16th) at 9PM. he was able to get there at 2 and i wasnt available till 4. i just surprised that the seller wouldnt take a deposit from me and my higher offer. oh well. the hunt continues.

Well, JV, sounds like you did everything you could. Hopefully the deal will fall through (but then you'll have to wonder why). Failing that: Better luck next time!
