Default 1996 Z210 Shabah new owner

Hello all,
Sorry I havent done this sooner, I have be spending alot of time working on the boat and more time on the lake. I got her as a repo... no speakers or radio, engine runs okay but i have been spending alot of time search the form for information.

I have currently been having problems with the engine cutting out at high rpms sometimes but mostly in the hole shot. Also I am noticing oil coming out of the drain plug. Any clues as to what could cause these problems. I have a bravo III mercruiser 350 i think they are 24p props.

Like I said I am a new owner and not a mechanic.... so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ill make sure to post more pics once I get her cleaned up.... She had been sitting outside since 2000 with no cover so the interior of the boat needs alot of work.

Thanks for the help

The cutting out and not running consistent and smooth could be fuel related, make sure all is new and use some additive, and replace fuel filter.

The oil is from an oil leak likely and ending up in the bilge area and exiting the drain. Use some rags, lights, mirrors or whatever and find the leak, it'll only get worse til you can find and fix.

Nice find though, it looks to be a Limited Edition. Im sure you will bring her back to her glory days soon.

    Congrats on a rare boat.

Thanks Zack... It looks to me like the oil is leaking from the drive oil reserve.... I checked the hoses but it looks like it just overflowed... I will keep an eye on it though. Can you think of anything else I need to check. Is there a place to check the gear lube in the lower unit??? Also, what is the best way to clean the interior of the boat... I have heard to use acitone.. is that true... Please help

There is a lube reservoir for the outdrive located near the rear of the engine or possibly on the rear bulkhead.

Acetone is one way to clean the interior but using those Mr Clean pads is far safer and just as effective.

Acetone only on hard surfaces if that gets on vinyl she will be dried out and crack for sure I would second the mr clean pads and soak the soft vinyls with alot of vinyl or leather conditioner and I do mean soak you might get lucky and if its not ripped it will drink it up and become nice and supple again. As for the oil leak if its not drive oil or valve cover related oil leakage check the rear of the engine gm small blocks back in the days were bad for rear seal leakage and as stated it only gets worse. Nice looking boat though good luck with her.

Alternator is no challenge to replace, two bolts and an electrical connection.

Make sure you buy the CORRECT Marine alternator, not a cheapie auto alternator. Spend the money for the right one and you will be happy. And just make sure to tighten the electrical connection when done, should only be a one hour project to swap.

Take a good look at the belts too, this may be a good time to replace if needed since you will have this one off anyway.

    Hope the best!

Yeah Zacks right its an easy job but don't cheap out I did and had to buy another one 2 seasons later lol. Lesson learned somethings are actually better when their made for the boat, belt change same time and you should be good in that department for years once the electrical connection is together a little squirt of silicone spray will really water proof the connection but go easy you only want it on the connect after its connected and no where else.
